Dudes, do you know of where 1970s style number plates can be bought? The ones on our 1974 Datsun are original and made by Bestplate and are reflective white front, reflective yellow rear. They're aluminium with individual black plastic riveted on-letters. I've never seen anywhere that still makes them
Cheers

Your car is not 'epic', this thread is not 'epic'....the OCEAN is epic, the UNIVERSE is epic.... please stop misusing this word!! It would appear Hotrods are the new VWs - aint fashion funny! '69 BUICK LESABRE 350

I resent that: Is that a bit of my car on you wall? And yes, German-style have no place on my build either.

Just thought I should add that I'm not long back from Hong Kong and got a few sets made up. Old font, even BS marked! A quick search for auto accessories on www.google.com.hk should see you right. ;D

Cheers for the link above. Just lost one of my plates so thought I might as well get some black and silver ones at last Is a shame though, was the 1972 original plate and now it's somewhere around Swansea

Ordered from Framptons yesterday afternoon and they arrived today! Awesome service.
Only downside is the Royal Mail who bent them forcing them through the letterbox despite there being three people in the house who would have willingly answered the door if they'd knocked!

I can recommend the Number Plate Centre in Sparkhill, Birmingham. They do the original 70s esque plates as show here in addition to pressed plates using the wider font: Framptons font is a little different though as it can be seen on my Sprint (I am not sure which I prefer truth be told!). Many ebay vendors sell pressed plates, but do them to the New Charles Wright font, which IMO seems to make the plates look more (well, the same) as 'legalised' German plates, which you see on many VWs. The plates on my Spitfire which came from an Ipswich supplier were no exception here: OTOH, I could just be picky and OCD!

Here's one for you - originally what kind of plates should a T reg 1979 car have? Seems to be no consistency in the construction type, seen some later cars with pressed/ raised plates but no idea if they're original or not!
I know mine's got replacement modern plates on it and i'm keen for some retro action, just not sure if it'd be appropriate.

Indeed, Rob's old Dolly Sprint which was a 1980 car left the factory with plastic plates but with the older wider digits (it even had the Leyland logos with the 'Milfords of Millhouse' insignia at the bottom .
